School of Medical Laboratory Technology is a component of Baptist Medical Centre, Ajegunle, Saki, which belongs to the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
The school was established in August 2006 to tackle the shortage of middle-level Medical Laboratory Science Personnel (Medical Laboratory Technicians) prevailing in the State, most especially in the Oke-Ogun Area of the State.
The first accreditation team visited in September 2006, and the school was awarded a provisional accreditation and commenced in October 2006. The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) programme is a three (3) years intensive semester-based programme with strong Medical Laboratory Science exposure components (Theory and Practical). Students are taken through the various aspects of Medical Laboratory Science courses which include but not limited to Medical Microbiology, Mycology, Virology, Parasitology, Clinical Chemistry, Histopathology, Haematology, Cytology, Cytogenetics, Laboratory Management and Ethics, Basic Laboratory Techniques, in addition to some basic courses such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Communication Skills, Computer Science, Functional French, General Studies, Environmental Health and Occupational Hazards, First Aid and Primary Health Care.
Qualified students are indexed with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) after the first six months.
Students who complete the programme and are inducted into the profession have employment opportunities in Hospital laboratories, Molecular Biology and Reference Laboratory, Research Institutions, Public Health Agencies, Police Establishment, Military Formations, General Hospitals and Primary Health Care Centre. Advances in health care and new careers have further fuelled the demand for medical laboratory personnel.
The broad philosophy of the school is to produce Middle-Level Personnel who will work under the supervision of registered Medical Laboratory Scientists, satisfy internationally recognized standards and undertake further Professional training and studies.
The school aims to effectively address the rainy needs of our society in the area of Medical Laboratory Services within the limit of Medical Laboratory Technician Practice.
The school maintains an open policy for qualified students, without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, denomination, sex, colour and political affiliations, for those that are truly interested in the course, want sound education, and are willing to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the profession and that of the institution.
The institution accepts eligible students who have completed their Senior Secondary School Programme and obtained a minimum of Five (5) credits in their O’Level WAEC/NECO/NABTEB at not more than Two (2) sittings in the following subjects as approved by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN):
The school was visited by The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria accreditation team between the 27th and 30th of August, 2023, for re-accreditation.
The school was granted full accreditation by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria with a sixty (60) student quota.

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) programme is a three (3) year, six-semester course that provides strong exposure to the medical laboratory profession.
The School is FULLY accredited by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
The school has a student handbook that spells out academic regulations, including 75% attendance before writing examinations. Students’ courses are evaluated by 30% continuous assessment and 70% end-of-semester examination, including practical examination. Moreover, suitability examinations are conducted for the final year students before presenting the successful ones for the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria Qualifying Examination for Technicians.
